Hello all! In last week’s First Look video many of you wanted to see how to use the new Twist Ties stamps and dies from Art Impressions. Today I thought I’d create a birthday card using the Flamingo Twist Ties set. :)
(Wondering what I used in this video? Everything is linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this post, or in the text below. Compensated affiliate links used when possible).
I used the pre-cut Twist Ties notecards (which are now in stock and available–yay!), but there are instructions on the back of the Twist Ties packaging telling you how to create the card base yourself. I might create my own card base next time I plan to use Copic Markers since the ink did bleed through (as you can see above). Not a huge deal, but if the bleed through bothers you, you could create the card base out of this thicker cardstock that won’t allow Copics to bleed through.
The secret to stamping the images perfectly is to line up the L-shaped guides on the stamps with the bottom corners of the gate-fold card. This makes more sense visually in the video above.
After stamping the flamingos, I used the included dies to cut out the shapes. Like I mention in the video, if you don’t get the positioning perfect, you can fudge the die cutting just a bit.
I colored the images using Copic Markers and created an ink blended heart shape for the inside of the card using three Distress Ink colors: Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, and Chipped Sapphire. To create a starry sky, I used white gouache and splattered it on the blended piece.
To finish off the card and bring in a bit more color, I diecut some stars and colored them with Copics.
I hope you enjoyed today’s card! It was so fun to create! Thanks for stopping by!
